    Paul,

Are you referring to the paint on the bottom or top of the hood?

In either case, just changing the carburetor and air cleaner should not affect the paint. Did you drive the car with no air cleaner? Did it pop back through the carburetor?

Seen that happen many times having the hood open and the sun reflecting on the chrome air cleaner burning (heat) cause the same thing.

That's a new on me (getting hot) only thing I can think of is the choke vacuum pulling to much hot AIR making everything hot , you know the Corvette Carb base is Corvette only? Car is thicker! The heat cross over would get the intake hotter if the heat riser is stuck closed or the manifold shield fell off. Let see what others say varrrry interesting????

                  Paul -

Is it new paint? Is your heat riser valve stuck closed?

Could it be that you have an exhaust leak? I've melted a battery cable with a leak at the donut. Just a thought
