    Long Distance Trailering???

I am planning a lengthy road trip with an open car hauler. Is there any way to protect my car from rain, rocks, and road dirt? I know that a car cover is a no no.

    Dwight,

I really know of no way to accomplish that. I trailered my corvette in an enclosed Featherlite trailer thru 27 states and was on the road 63 days straight putting on 15,686 miles participating in many different car events. With all the different inclimate weather conditions I found this the best way to travel.

      Dwight,

You can protect your car to some degree by solidly attaching some kind of air dam to the front of the trailer. You can get a good idea of what you would need if you will visit the open trailer section in fleabay or other specific trailer sites.

Dwight, The interstates today are like a war zone. Ask any big rig driver and he or she will agree. And with all the construction, dust, rain, and soon sleet and salt I wouldn't dream of trailering a nice Corvette across country or any long distance in an open trailer. Now if I hated the car then I would. Another thing is that you are just begging for trouble with the midnite auto suppliers. You can't possibly check into a motel and rest comfortably.
Never ceases to amaze me why some enclosed trailer I see at the shows actually advertise what is in the trailer. I wouldn't even put an NCRS sign on a trailer. Maybe get a magnetic one to put it on at the show for fun.
Example: My 63 showcar was trailed 750 miles to the regional in Marlborough last year. It was one hard long pull. If I had an open trailer I would have suffered a lot of damage for sure. Much more than the cost of a good used enclosed trailer. One last though is that you can possibly rent an enclosed trailer or pay a friend to borrow his. John D.

boy, do i agree with you there!! I never advertise what im pulling!!,, some people have the corvette flags painted on theirs, others have the year of the car painted on too,, thats fine for those people as it is their choice, but not for me!!!,, why say to a perspective thief,, hey,,ive got a 57 corvette in here,, come check it out and see if you can steal it,, or vandalize it,,Once again,, to each his own,,, thats americia (trying to cover my rear here),, later doug

Did you buddy suffer any damage?. I remember years ago when a friend towed his car on an open trailer with a car cover on it. Then he tied rope around the car cover to keep it from blowing off. Well I am sure most of you know what happened next. In a lot of spots the paint was wore down to the bare shiny metal. I think a guy is just better off driving the car on the open highway rather than have it sitting up high on a trailer getting bombarded from gravel off the rear wheels of the tow car. To each his own though.

Nope no damage, he has great success with this technique. It's been trailered this way several times. However, wrapping the car from the rear to the front was a lesson welll learned. The strong wind while driving got up under the layers once! sNow it stays perfectly tight, shrink wrapped for freshness!
