    1965 frame

One of the threaded inserts in the frame to which the battery tray is bolted is not in place. Is there a source for a correct replacement that may be installed to allow proper tray installation? Thanks.

    Joe----

I don't think that any threaded inserts were originally used. I thought that these were just self-tapping screws which formed their own threads in holes pre-drilled in the frame. If so, these can easily strip out. In that case, you may be able to use Thread-Serts, available from aftermarket suppliers to "repair" the threads.

      Joe,

These attachments are not holes in the frame with self tapping screws run into them to secure the battery tray. There is a small rectangular insert with rounded ends that has a coarse machine thread through its center to accept the bolts. These inserts appear to be pressed into the frame from the factory. If I had the ability to post a photo I'd do so, but I cannot. Thanks for the response.

A set of virgin RHS battery tray mount inserts

Never seen a bolt; because the car is a late 396 with LH battery tray. Same thing on C60 cars. You can only make out half of the foremost bolt hole as it's partially hidden by the outboard dust shield (note the tack-welded filler tab reported on some late L78's and even some '66 BBs. It's the L78s and C60's that have the battery tray mount bolts threaded directly into the LHS frame w/self-tapping bolts; all other C2s have these threaded inserts; can't speak to C3s.

I suppose one of these can fall out, as the "lip" seems only to be on the outboard face. Suggest you find a donor frame to replace your missing insert.

          Wayne and Joe-----

These certainly weren't used for the battery box on C3's since C3's have the battery mounted in the rear compartment behind the driver's seat. Also, I've not seen any location on a C3 that uses this style thread insert.

I do not know of a source for these. They are not available from GM and, as far as I can tell, they never were.

Another type of threaded insert nut would probably work. McMaster-Carr and Fastenal have a large selection of such devices.
