Joe, any ideas on a lower alternator bracket #3951337 from my 1974 L-48. It doesn't list this part # as a replacement in my 53-82 GM parts catalog. It's made out of iron I believe. THANKS....Marty

Re: Alt. Bracket
Marty-----
GM #3951337 was the original cylinder head-mounted, cast iron alternator bracket used for 1972-78 Corvette small blocks. It was a piece first used for 1969 Chevrolet series 10-30 trucks with small block engines and later became the Corvette bracket when Corvette applications stopped using the manifold-mounted brackets (a wise decision that should have been implemented for Corvettes MUCH earlier).
In 1979-82, Corvette changed to an aluminum alternator bracket, GM #14015510. This was used for most applications, although the GM #14015539 cast iron bracket (the successor to the GM #3951337) may have been used for some non-70 amp alternator applications.
Contrary to what some parts information says, I don't think that the aluminum GM #14015510 was used prior to 1979, although I would not rule out some late 1978 use. The GM #14015510 had no predecessor part number.
The GM #3951337 and GM #14015539 are functionally interchangeable. So, what's the difference between them? I've forgotten. Sorry. In Appreciation of John Hinckley- Top
