Re: Short blocks
Junk yard or Chevrolet parts dept. One you have to know what you're doing (junk yard) and the other you just order it up (new clean and ready from Chevrolet). Is it cheap at Chevrolet? That's a relative question.....however given that there were so many 350's made you should be able to find one just about anywhere if you really want cheap.- Top

Re: Short blocks
The auto parts stores like Auto Zone or NAPA carry complete rebuilt engines, complete with some warranty. Goodwrench (Chevy Dealer) has a "Universal" 350 complete engine, new with a 3 yr/36000 mile warranty for about $1100. I believe it's rated at 250 HP. GM Performance parts sell a 300 HP 350 for about $1900, again with a warranty. A short block you get from a local machine shop might be great, but the guarantee is only as good as the shop and it's owner.- Top

Re: Short blocks (addendum)
There is a rebuilder who has a continuous ad in "Corvette and Chevy Trader" that sells rebuilt long blocks for about $700 exchange. He is in Texas, so depending on where you are freight could be a problem. That should give you an idea of the rebuilt market though.- Top

DONT use Performance Chevy
The ones that advertise in the Driveline.... I got an engine from them a few years ago that broke on the guy I sold it to (w. zero miles on it). They recently screwed up a set of heads I sent them to rebuild and it cost me plenty extra to have a local shop redo them for me. Then they were supposed to have sent out some parts to me... I've been waiting over a month. I called to tell them how unhappy I was, and didnt even get so much as an apology.- Top
