Is there anyway to tell what engine come in my 68 vette without the build sheet? I would guess it came with the 327 but I'd like to know for sure. I'd like to put a 427 in it. Does anyone know where I might be able to get a 427 block from?

Re: engine
Without the original paperwork, the only way to determine a the factory configuration of a car from this era is via 'forensic' inspection -- what telltale items are present that would have been installed with this/that engine? Things like tach redline, radiator/shroud, rear end, drive train and suspension components.
Most are covered by the text of the NCRS Judging Guide, but it's often a LOT easier to hire an experienced NCRS judge to do a 'survey' of your car than it is to struggle with reading/digesting the written text in the JG. Is it possible to convert a factory orignal SB car to a BB?
Yes, but I wouldn't look for help here because that's considered a 'no no' at NCRS. Restore means to put the car back to its original factory configuration and NOT make it the way you would have ordered it from the factory had you been the original buyer...- Top

Re: engine
Terry,
Here are all your tach redline options in 1968. 327/300 hp redline at 5300, 327/350 hp redline at 6000, 427/390 hp and 427/400 hp redline at 5600, and 427 with 435 and 430 hp redline at 6500. This should give you a real good idea of what you originally had in the car. What does yours have?
You can also get a good reading if it was a big block or small block by the shape of the hood too.Terry Buchanan

Re: engine
Terry you might get lucky and find the build sheet/order copy behind the radio, or tucked up behind the tach or speedometer in the wiring if someone has not removed it. If it has the original gas tank, there may me enough of the glued on order copy to find out what engine your 68 had. You would have to remove the gas tank to read it.- Top
