Interested to see what Joe posts for the current number. I have a AC Delco fuel pump I bought for my 70 about 19-20 years ago when the original fuel pump was replaced, I bought two, one for a spare. Anyway on the box it has GR 03.900 1#6470308 1#40769.

      Bob-----

Jim's got it. The original fuel pump for your 1970 L-46 was of GM #6470308 aka AC type 40769. The same pump was used for all 70-76 small blocks, except LT-1.

However, the GM #6470308, aka Delco type 40769, was discontinued fairly recently and replaced by GM #6471216, aka Delco type 41240. The latter pump is the one originally used in PRODUCTION and SERVICE for 1977-81 Corvettes.

The pumps appear the same to me, but there may be some slight difference. Also, keep in mind that even when the 40769 was last available, it was not configured exactly like the original pump. AC stopped making mechanical fuel pumps more than 20 years ago. So, all AC pumps sold over that period have been "out-sourced" and differ in minor ways from originals. So, even if you were to find an NOS 40769, it will not be configured exactly like your original unless you find a REAL OLD one.

The GM #6471216 will be 100% functional for your application.

          Bob------

I did a little more research on this one. I now think that the AC 41240 might have a cannister which is somewhat shorter than the original AC 40769. If so, I do not see how that wouldn't affect the pump-to-carburetor fuel line configuration.

You MAY be able to find an aftermarket version of the 40769 with original configuration. Actually, this would very likely be exactly the same as the AC 40769 that's been available for the last 20 years since, for all practical purposes, the AC mechanical fuel pumps sold for the last 20+ years were aftermarket pumps----the same ones packaged in aftermarket boxes.

Joe, Some vendors are listing a 40769 has a rebuilt fuel pump. I've called them and they say thats it's a repo. With the AC logo and a stamped number of 40769 on them. Your correct the cannister on the 41240 is shorter than the 40769.

              Bob-----

Most, if not all, of these "reproduction" fuel pumps with the "AC" logo on them are actually a rebuilt fuel pump. I don't like the idea of rebuilds for these crimped style fuel pumps. Personally, I would not use one.

I think that a Carter fuel pump #M6106 will provide dimensional configuration like the original pump. There will be some nuances of configuration (like lettering on the pump's cast body, etc.) that will not be as-original.
