    72 454 vert

My friend is in the used car business and asked me if I was interested in a 72 vert with 454 and factory air. He states that it is in good condition with matching number. Any ideas as to what it's worth? I think he wants about 35k
    Thanks

Honestly? Your description is so vague and unspecific that I doubt anyone can give you a ballpark figure. You need to know its accident history, condition of the various components, what works/doesn't work, condition of the paint and interior, and whether or not it has been modified.

Besides, he is a used car salesman, and we know the reputation of those!

      Thanks Gary,
I know you are right. I havnt seen the car yet so I don't know those specifics. If the car is original with minimal accident history, good original interior, good but not show quality paint and everything working, let's say a nice driver quality car, about what would it be worth? I am not sure how desirable these cars are.
      Thanks

One of the first places that I check is The Driveline magazine. Are you a member? If so, they just came out and are chock-full of cars for you to compare. I tend to trust the descriptions there just a bit more than the ones you see in the paper, but I still am cautious. I know that some folks keep their Drivlines as a sort of historical data base to see how the prices of cars and parts are going.

Me, I have a tough enough time figuring out the value of my own car for insurance purposes. Howeve, using the Driveline priecs (which we all know are the ASKING prices) I just raised the insurance on my 72 LT-1.

Perhaps someone will chirp in with a value.

Look for rust in the birdcage,doors,#4 body mount and frame. 35K will buy some nice 72's so look on the web at CCTOL and get an idea on what others are selling.

Collector Car Trader On Line is a web site with cars for sale. They have lots of corvettes listed to get a general idea on prices on any model year. Just google CCTOL.

You might also consider Hemmings Motor News as a source for values. It tends to have more real car people rather than people who've watched too much Barrett Jackson and want to sell their stuff like the Trader type publications typically draw.

I'd think for 35K for a '72 it'd have to be WAY PAST driver quality and getting into show car/collectible territory.
