    283 519 block

    I want to help a friend with a block he is rebuilding and need to know correct bore, stroke and rod length for a 283 small block .060. It's going to be 270 HP, flat top pistons with four valve reliefs and sealed power CS113 solid lifter cam. Cam info lists specs at .050 and a SAE J?? spec. Can someone tell me what this is as I am trying to find the correct closing point for intake valve to determine compression ratio before selecting head gasket.

    The Corvette is a 1960 and the heads have not been done yet but will be original for this engine so I also need to know the cc's to use for the calculator. I am using the calcalator on the United engine and Machine website. Thanks for your help, Tim

    Re: 283 519 block

    Timothy,

    Standard bore is 3.00" plus .060" = 3.060". Stroke is 3.875". Rod length is 5.7". Chamber volume is ABOUT 64cc........measure them using a piece of plexiglass with a 1/2" hole, a pipette or eye dropper, and measured amount of fluid in a graduated cylinder. Seal the plexiglass to the head with grease, and clamps.
    Use the .050" cam lift specs for valve timing, which is more widely used than J604d.

    CR= [cylinder vol+chamber vol] / cylinder vol

    Cyl vol= 3.1417x(1.530x1.530)x3.875

    Chamber Vol= chamber cc + compressed head gasket vol + piston to deck clearance - piston dome volume + piston dish volume + ring land volume.
