Re: 54 wheel color vs dash
I can't comment on the color. The price of these cars has gone crazy of late. There seems to be no upper limit. Always seems to be that way after I sell something. If any documentation, I would say easily $100K.- Top

Re: 54 wheel color vs dash
The color of the wheels is the same as the dash. The dash has flattener in it as to not be glossy. The wheels should be glossier than the dash. If you use regular, non flattened paint, you will be fine for judging, in my opinion. I have a color code for powder coating the wheels red also. I have had judging success with this method. Gold as well as Top Flight.

Re: 54 wheel color vs dash
The Corvette world is crazy like many classic cars, I see 54's from 50K to 250K and they made over 4500 /// 300 53 start at 150K and more and then what I love is the 700 55's made which you rarely ever see bring 75K and are rarer then a 54!
Hagerty insured my 55 for 200K , is it worth it ? To me yes , may be to others no!
I see 54's for sale saying only 1500 miles original , any one can turn back a Speedo after restoring a car. C2's now days have more paper work with the Corvette for sale that most original owners never had when they bought the Corvette.
The best saying I ever heard was ( follow the money) and you'll get most answers!
To me it's a game , you play or go home. No matter what any Corvette is worth if you don't drive them what good are they!!!
People that just wont a Corvette to drive make the best buys, other that wont a museum Corvette pay the price!- Top

Re: 54 wheel color vs dash
I have a friend who owns a powder coating business. He has many suppliers and many color chips to choose from. I can get you the supplier name and code tomorrow and post another response on this board, if you like. He powder coats the back of the wheels black and then powder coats the front in red. The overspray gets onto the back of the wheel but still shows the black. This then looks like the factory method.

Re: 54 wheel color vs dash
The color that I use is an RAL3001 number. It is a "worldwide standard" color that 90% of powder coating suppliers will have access to. As always, I would check the color chart for the RAL3001 color against your own Sportsman Red sample and decide for yourself. When you have your paint mixed, you could use this sample for them to tint to. Powder coat your wheels first and then use them (or a powder coated piece of metal)as your sample OR vica-versa This color matches very good for me and I use it exclusively for 1953-54 Sportsman Red.
Good luck with your car and have fun!!

Re: 54 wheel color vs dash
Glad to help. Just a note though.
My powder coater has me call the supplier and ask for a 5lb sample of the colr. This will doo the wheels and won't cost him anything except labor. Might save you some $$$ going forward.
Good luck Brad!!- Top
