    1958 - 8000 tachometer

Could anyone help me out? I have a noise in the tachometer, 1958 - 8000 rpm and I believe it is the cable, however how do I correct the problem without buying a new cable. When I move the cable the noise decreases. Do you have any suggestions? All equipment is new.

Thanks. You can reply to sharonkintz@aol.com

    Try lubricating the cable first.

You shouldn't drive with an engine running at 8000rpm ;-)

Wayne, Good answer as most don't use enough lub or use the wrong stuff. Same thing with the FI drive cables. I had a customer complain to me that his drive cable broke after only 3000 miles. He said he was coming to Corvette Carlisle so I said bring it to me please. So when I saw it I was truly amazed. I said to him the cable is still nice and ncwe looking except in two pieces sir. What kind of grease did you have on it. He said grease? You never told me to grease it. I said to the DA. I am truly amazed sir that it lasted 3000 miles.
Drive cable lub: Any brand of disc brake wheel bearing grease works fine. As much as possible. Maybe it would work good on the tach cable too. Keep away from the old white grease we so loved in the olded days as it's too watery.

          Rich,

I use Kable-Ease, (correct spelling), I pruchased from Paragon. It works great on my 57, 6,000, Tach. I also use it on my speedo cable. Both cables are noise free. I followed the direction on the lable and all is well.
