    1965 - Flywheel

How many teeth did the standard flywheel for a 1965 small-block have? I'm just curious, what engines would get 168T and 153T flywheels? Thanks.

Hi Frank --- All '65 Corvettes had 153-tooth ring gears. Your SB flywheel should be an "021" cast #. The 168 tooth ring gears started in '66 with the 14" flywheels.

This couldn't be at a better time for me. I am wondering what the proper part number is for the flywheel for the '65 10.5" clutch as I am switching back from an 11" ,which is wrong for my car.

Rick --- 12.75" dia./153 tooth (ring gear) flywheel is GM part # 3791021 (both the part # as well as the casting #). There's a lot of them out there, as all '65's and earlier 327's used them. It appears that I'm in the minority in claiming that the 396 also used this flywheel, but with a higher rated clutch assy. Of course you'll want to get the right cast date (heh heh).

            Re: Message Board Help

Sorry for the delay in getting a good reply to you. I was away all last week and didn't have access to my resources. I think I have found the solution to your Technical Discussion Board viewing. You are used to the Mixed Threaded Single Message-Style Listing. This style will list all threads newest at the top of the page. Each response will be listed under the tread indented from it's parent message. This is the classic default setup that you should have if you have never changed your preferences. In Preferences chose:

            List Style: Threaded
            Display Style: Single Message
            Sort Order: Mixed Order

A newer style that I like is Mixed Threaded Guestbook-Style Listing. Just change the Display Style to Guestbook. This will open all of the messages in a thread in the lower window at once. This way you can follow the entire thread without opening message after message.

Let me know if you have problems with this.

Thanks for the tip John. The guestbook style saves a lot of wear and tear on the old fingers.

Why do I have to update "preference" everytime I go online? Is there a way to return to the index at the point that I was before viewing the thread? I am using the preference that was suggested with guest book and all threads being viewed at once.

Good question Terry. I just came back in from my email notification and I'm still on guestbook. Maybe John knows.

Terry, I tried to get the answer to that very same question, from John, a few weeks ago and we could not correct the situation---I still have to update preferences every time-----PIA.

                      Re: Message Board Help

I believe I am in error. When I first go to the board, it comes up in a spit frame appearance that made me assume my preference had not been retained. I would immediately update my preference and continue. Instead,if I view one message and then return to the index, I'm in the full screen single frame mode. This appears to be correct. I should have just continued without updating my preference!
Now, how do I return to the index in the same position that I was before I viewed a thread?

Terry, The only way that I have been able to get in the forum without frames-----and STAY in without frames, is------- AFTER you hit "set preferences" go down to " update preferences" and hit it. Then you will stay in "no frames" until you log off. The next time you re-enter the forum, you have to go thru the same process----Big PITA!!!!
It doesn't seem to matter that I have NO frames checked--?.
