    C2 67 small block hood

Are the 65,66,67 small block hoods identical or are there any differences between them, both topside and underside? I think the 66 hood had an emblem on the drivers side where the 65 and 67 did not and there were holes on the underside to access the the emblem.

Is it the same hood whether it has factory air or not?

Also is it correct for a 67 small block hood with factory air to have the hood support on the drivers side?

    Thanks

Re: C2 67 small block hood

I believe that the holes that were added in 1966 for the emblem remained in the 67 hoods, even though the holes were not used in 67.

The 67 small block with factory air had the hood support on the passenger side. There was no difference in the hood for factory air cars.

      Plus...

Factory original 1965 hoods did NOT have provisions for a LH side hood prop mount while later, '66 and up, hoods were downward compatible providing both RH and LH hood prop mounting facilities...

        With Factory Air?

I read in Noland Adams book that some 66 small blocks with air had the hood support on the drivers side. Did that carry over to 1967? Were they all that way, just some or ???. I have an October 66 car so it was early in the year and I would like to know which side is correct for the hood support on a 67 L79 with factory air?

          Re: With Factory Air?

The hood change from exclusively having a RH hood prop mount to having dual RH/LH mounting provisions was a BB vs. SB issue. In 1965, there was no provision for a BB with A/C. When A/C was allowed on BB's in 1966, the interference problem arose. Hence, hoods with dual RH/LH hood prop mounting provisions and '65 vs. '66 and later construction was a BB issue exclusive to the power bulge version of the BB hood.

BUT, there are always exception, eh? In '66, SB engines equipped with A/C changed the A/C hose routing path. That created a potential interference factor with the RH mount of the hood prop. So, Noland's observations relate to the factory's hand modification of the SB hood to move the hood prop to the LH side (fortunately, because the inner fenders changed in '66 to support either a RH or LH hood prop installation, half of the work was already done).

On these cars, the LH side of the SB hood was rather crudely 'cut' to allow the hand insertion of a hood prop mounting plate. These are pretty unique and easy to spot since there's a 'ratty' looking slit in the hood's underside fiberglass support panel.

To my knowlege, the hose routing problem was fixed for '67 and all SB cars had RH mounted hood supports while BB cars were exclusively supported on the LH side. I can't rule out the possibility that an early '67 SB with A/C might have used a '66, hand modified, SB-A/C hood with LH hood prop installation, but I don't have specific knowledge of that...

The basic SB hood assy was PN 3857463 which was the same for '65, '66, and '67. This had RH hood prop only mounting provisions.

My SER# 7471 1st week of Jan car has a right side support. I have never seen a SB car with the left hand support, yet.

              Re: Plus...

I've never seen a production '66-'67 SB hood with support mounting provisions on both sides, although I've seen Service hoods with dual provisions.
