    '66 hinge pillar weatherstrip

    Hello,

In the AIM UPC1 page F15 for a convertible it calls for part 8 which is tape approx 8 inches long folded over to go under the weatherstrip. What is the purpose of this and what kind of tape is it?

Second, the weather strip I bought which was corvette rubber does not have the piece for the push in clip. Has anyone tried the metro brand weatherstrip recently and if so is it correct. The aim only shows two screws holding the weatherstrip down but my car has holes for three screws and the push in clip. Is this how it is secured for a late '66?

    Thanks in advance,

    Ian

Be careful reading drawings... You'll note this one (UPC-1, F15) is a COMPOSITE showing the assy methods for BOTH convertible (19467) and coupe cars (19437)... The weatherstrips were different with coupes using a 2-piece system and convertibles using a 1-piece weatherstrip.

Until recently, only the 2-piece, coupe, weatherstrips were available and restorers had to 'jury rig' using coupe rubber to make it 'appear' to be factory original convertible rubber! Finally, a convertible, 1-piece, weatherstrip came on the market (Corvette Central is one source), but I've not compared their product to a real McCoy original.

Back to your question. Re-read the parts list on the drawing and you should see the tape, Item 8, you question is clearly called out as a coupe only component. It was probably used to maintain correct position of the discrete lower portion of the weather strip during installation/attachment.

      Hi Jack,

      Thanks for your response.

My AIM lists item 8 as 19467 convertible only. I still don't know what type of tape was used or it's exact purpose. I ordered a metro set of weatherstrip and I am hopeful they will be more like the originals.
