    1959 Red Soft Top?

I recently purchased a 59 that had been off the road since the early 70's.

It has a very low VIN and I believe has the original soft top which is red in color. I have never seen any mention of this being available and was wondering if this is possible. The top is in very rough condition, but looks like the original material. (It has not been dyed red)

The car was originally roman red with a red interior.

I live in the Kansas City area and would like to know how I can tell if this is indeed "real".

    Thanks

    Ken,

I have never ever heard of red for a soft top, however anything is possible. I have first hand knowledge of very unusual color combinations not factory available, of Corvettes in the 50's. It would be hard to prove red without some original paperwork, as they never offered red tops from the factory.

I thought the soft top on my 62 was original. It looked pretty old, but upon closer eyeing it was replaced in 1964, likely a color change from black to white as it was always a Florida car.

There is a date code in the lower left area of the clear plastic window on original tops. It will say "Vinylite" some numbers and a date code, along with washing instructions, all heat stamped in. Check it and see what's there.
