    C2 Spare Tire Tray

My 65 has the mid year crossed flag logo painted on the spare tire tray such that it is visible below the car. The flags are about 14 inches and there is a white circle painted around the diameter of the tray. It does not look like an amature job.

I have never seen anything like this before. Does anybody know if it was original to the car, after market or done hand painted by a previous owner? (Sorry but I don't know how to attach a photo.) Although I am sure it is not correct it is pretty cool and I don't want to change it out.

I have been curious about this for quite some while.

As far as I am aware, such a thing as you've described was never applied in PRODUCTION to any Corvette, 1965 or otherwise. So, I think it's safe to say it was done at some time post-St. Louis. Just because it looks like it was professionally done is not surprising----all sorts of post-PRODUCTION modifications are done to Corvettes in a very professional manner.

If you like it, there's no law that says you have to change it. However, if you plan to have the car judged, it might not be to your benefit to leave it in place.

I agree this procedure was not applied at the factory. Pretty easy solution to have your cake and eat it too. Just get a spare tub and leave your unique one as it is and enjoy it !!! Then you'll have "correct" and "cool" !!

        Thanks guys.
What I find very curious is that everything else on the car is original (except for the side pipes). I wonder what prompted the prior owner to go to the effort /expense? He/she probably thought it was cool also. Guess I'll never find out.

Sounds as though by your profile, you might wish to join the NCRS and your local chapter. Then become active in the local chapter's events and attend some regional events and national conventions. Be sure to get your wife involved. After all, the '65 was hers when you married her. This organization is comprised of the best bunch of people from all walks of life from all over the world. After you join, I hope to see you at the Winter Regional meet at Old Town, Kissimmee, Florida in January.
