    C1 power top value

Would appreciate any advice as to the fair market (swap meet) value of a C1 powwer-operated hydraulic softtop assembly in need of restoration ?? May not be 100% complete, but includes motor, hyd. cylinders, wiring, hoses and gas tank cover for that option. I have no idea. Thanks

A while back, a power top assist kit (without the top frame itself), which sounds like what you are describing, went for about $650 on eBay; I don't know what condition it was in. Hard to understand, from your post, whether you are asking about the top frame also... my guess is around $1200-$1600 for the top assembly alone, without the power assist, assuming it is complete but needs restoration.

Thanks for the help! Yes, I was referring to the power assist alone that a person would purchase to convert their vette. All other responses welcomed, but at least now I have a ball park idea !

I've seen complete power top systems in used unrestored condition, needing restoration go for $1200-2500 at Carlisle. Earlier systems are slightly different than the later systems.

I have purchsed two complete systems, pump, cylinders, hoses, valves, switches, etc. in the past two years. Paid $600 and $750. The popularity of these units seems to be on the rise, so you may find the prices rising accordingly. Don't forget the hinge that attaches to the passenger side of the deck lid. This is a special piece that connects to a cylinder to raise the lid before the top is lowered or raised. It seems to be a part that got lost when a lot of these systems were removed. Rick Nagy wrote an article appropriately titled "Power Top Restoration"(vol.5, No.4, Spring '79, page 32)that included some excellent pictures of this hinge. The entire article is excellent and required reading for anyone contemplating the re-installation of a power top. If you do not have the CD or a complete set of former Restorer mags, e-mail me direct and I can fax you a copy. Good luck.

I have seen a "new" setup advertised in some one of the regular magazines I read for $1200. I'm not sure if this is supposed to be a repo, or generic replacement. I suspect it is the latter. The same advertiser sells parts. I think the ad was in the back of Corvette and Chevy Trader. I'm on the road at the moment so I can't look it up.

              Re: value adjustment

One additional point, the prices I mentioned in my earlier comment were for complete,UNRESTORED, units. There are several people, both advertise every month in Hemmings, that will restore pumps and cylinders: Convertible Service, San Gabriel, CA. 626-285-2255; Hydro-E-Lectric, Punta Gorda, FL. 1-800-343-4261. Additionally, do yourself a favor and purchase a new power top wiring harness from Lectric Limited, 708-563-0400. They make an excellent exact repro harness for solid axle vettes that will save you many hours on the re-installation process. Good luck!!
