    Lighter

    I own a 72 vet. What is the best way to adjust the lighter to keep it from
    popping back up after its pushed in. It popps up immediately. Is there a
    certain portion of the lighter or female housing in the console that could
    be slightly bent in the right direction?

    Re: Lighter time adjustment

    Have done the following to my lighter. The info is from an article by John Hinckley, so he knows the subject not me;

    "Additionally, you can "tune" the lenght of time the lighter remains depressed and heating and how it "pops" by gently bending the two spacing retainers at the bottom of the receptacle with a small screwdriver. Make sure yuou disconnect the lighter or the battery while tuning or you'll be greeted by a large spark (and a blown fuse) when the screwdriver slips and touches the housing and spring retainer at the same time."

      The spring retainer electrical contacts at the bottom of the receptacle determine how hot the element gets before it disengages, and the spring fingers lanced into the side barrel of the receptacle determine whether it stays in the receptacle or flies into your lap when it "pops".

        Re: Lighter time adjustment

        Thanks for your comments. I'll try the adjustments you mentioned this weekend.
        I know it's a small tweak, but my car is in-tombed due to my beagle who had the
        habit of looking out the garage window while sitting on the car's hood.
        It only happened once and then the tomb has been constructed.
        I went to Home Depot and purchased 3 sheets of 4x8 plywood which now encircle
        the fron end of my car. It works rather well. Oh and I had my 72 original paint
        buffed out profesionally just yesterday. What a difference. It pops.....
        So there ya go, that car has gone to the dogs. Waco or bust.
