    Hi Kelly

    If your talking about indexing your plugs so the open gap faces the intake valves, I saw on a TV program that it does help alittle cause the spark can spread better. But that was what they said on the show. I really don't think you would notice it. Someone else here may have tried it and had some noticable differance in mpg.

      No the technique is where you cut the tip off even with the electrode. Some say you get better fire with a plug that you would normally get than with just the standard gap. Some also say to increases your gap and that will improve mpg. Just asking because most of the guys on this board have been around and seen a lot of the BS. And I wanted to know what some of the thoughts were.

        BS= Bachelor of Science
        MS= More of the Same
        PHD= piled higher and deeper

        This is all of the above.

        (And guys with degrees---I'm not picking on you--I am guilty of the above)

          Oh did I say a BS degree? A bachelor of science, most have a AA in automotive is what I was saying that the older guys have from the late fifties and early sixties.

            I think you missed the point--most of those new and shade tree/old wives' tales are BS!

              Kelly,

              Rev Mike said it one way, I'll try to say it another.

              There are no magic bullets, elixirs or parts that will make a great difference in gas mileage or performance.

              The secret to getting good performance (and often good gas mileage at the same time) is to do it "right". One term for that is to "blueprint". Put the engine together and make all the settings (timing, carburetor, etc) "right".

              "Right" may not be what is in the book for any given car because car manufacturers make compromises for emissions, marketing and company policy.

              If you are interested in what is right for Corvettes, and a lot of other old Chevys, there are people on this board that know and are willing to help.

                Clipping the side electrode sometimes will help when you have a cylinder burning an excess of oil. Look at the two cycle plugs..then have the side electrode clipped to the middle of the center electode.
