    70 BB air cleaner

What is the correct air cleaner for the 1970 BB LS-5. Open faced element or dual snorkel??? I have seen both?

Depends on when in the 1970 model year (MY) your 1970 was built. The 1970-72 TIM&JG will tell you aproximate change point. Either can be correct.

What type ignition shielding do you have?

If your ORIGINAL distributor cover (it's sometimes tricky to know what it was originally) is the two piece box type, you will use the open element air cleaner. If you have the later one piece distributor cover, you probably will use the closed element cleaner. It's best to go by VIN number...unless your VIN is near the changeover point, it's black and white. I believe the air cleaner and ignition shielding changes occurred at the same time. One matchup has interference problems; I think it's attempting to use the later closed element cleaner with the early box distributor cover.

If you're not sure the shielding is original to the car, better buy the TIM&JG. As Terry said, the TIM&JG has an approximate VIN changeover. If you don't have any ignition shielding, you really should get the manual; it'll prove very useful.
