Cowl Vent Painting

I need to repaint my cowl vents and would like to get the same paint coverage as original. What type and color of primer was used on the bare metal? Any other primer used prior to color coat? I assume that the color was applied from the top side and that the back would show primer color.

It would be great if someone could post the process or even pictures (front and back) of originals. My car is a 65.

Both sides were painted, while resting on the floor. On original cars, you will find the grille outlines (2) on both the driver & passenger floor.

Maybe painted in the floors leaving an outline is common knowledge since nobody else commented, but of all the midyears I own and have owned, and all of the ones I've scattered over the years, I've never seen signs of cowl vent outlines in the floorboards. ('course I've never looked for it)

I'd be interested in some additional comments.
