Re: How did Corvette's do at LeMans? ntx
Where have you been, Bob. I thought everybody got the results from Le Mans. Speedvision broadcast 23 hours live and had hourly updates on their web site. Also, GM broadcast real time data from the two Corvette's and their two Caddys, which included video, revs, speed, and gear. You could ride in the Vettes for the whole race.
Bottom line - podium finish (3rd in GTS) for the #64 Corvette with #63 a lap or two back in fourth. GM ran a full page ad in the WSJ yesterday. Of the six Vipers, two finished 1 and 2 in GTS a couple of laps ahead of the C-5Rs, two were behind, and I think two DNFed. The only significant problem with the Corvettes was the gearbox on #63,which had to be changed.
The Vipers under the ORECA team are truly awesome and they deserve a lot of credit for running a great race, but they know the Vettes are hot on their heels and can't rest on their laurels for long. GM is committed to a three year program.
The Caddys didn't do that well, but three out of four (two from the GM team and two from an "independent" French team) finished although they were well behind the Vettes, so five of the six GM cars finished the race, which I consider an excellent accomplishment for their first outing at Le Mans.
Go to the link below and download the hotlap video of the C-5R. It's really great. Le Mans is a series of 190 MPH straights separated by 50 MPH curves. For a car to run like this for 24 hours is almost incomprehensible, but they did it and they'll be back.
