Repro (poly) tar top battery for '66

I see that the reincarnation of the previously defunct New Castle Battery company, now called TurboStart (www.turbostart.com) is finally selling a repro of the '66 battery, which I assume is a poly tar version of the tar top. Has anyone bought one of these since they've become available again and, if so, are they as good as it gets in terms of originality in a new battery?

I know that Restoration Battery sells a sealed version with fake caps, which has a reported issue with a mold parting line on the sides.

Does anyone know if the two batteries would get the same deduct? What if one did the roofing tar addition to the Turbostart battery? Any chance that would have a zero deduct?

    Thanks,

    Gary

Gary,Hard to believe you are intent on fooling our judges. One of my pals did what you suggested and got full credit as he piled the tar on.
My 63 has an original tar top and it used to be mint. But now it's full of gouges from the NCRS guys putting their thumb nails in it. CC included. John

      Fooling the judges

      John,

Some might call it fooling the judges; others might call it making the effort to create an accurate looking part. Just semantics.

Gary, Well put for sure as you can't fool the judges. You wonder what happened o all those old tar tops that were in our cars just a few years ago. I heard they can be rebuilt. John
