Just a broad guess but is the idle set too low? There are different specs for auto and manual trans.

I assume your car has Powerglide. Was the car originally sold in California and equipped with K-19 AIR? What is the distributor number? What is the initial timing and total idle timing, and what is the ID number on the vacuum advance control?

Once the above information is determined and correct follow the CSM procedure for idle speed/mixture adjustment for 500 in Drive. Use an accurate test tach. Be sure to securely set the parking brake and securely double chock at least one front wheel when you do this.

If the OE cam has been replaced with a higher overlap cam you will likely have a problem achieving the OE idle characteristic.

To get an idea if a non-OE cam is installed, set the idle speed at 500 in neutral and tell us how much manifold vacuum it pulls.

first you must describe what everything is? is the choke opening up the whole way when its hot?? if the car idles fine when its cold and stalls when its hot, then my money is on the choke.

          Lou,

If you can post the parts that have been replaced in the fuel and ignition systems someone will be able to help. I once had a 72 base engine/automatic Corvette that I changed the cam and had the same problem so you may find that the cam has been changed.
