1953-1954 Ring & Pinion Replacement

Does anyone know of a compnay that supplies a Ring & Pinion set for a 53-54? I am converting a passenger car rear end to a corvette unit. The housing is the same part number (the end of the case must be machined to the proper length), the ring gear is the same part number, but the pinion gear is not. It can be modified but will not be case hardened in that surface area. I'd rather just buy a new set of gears if I can find a supplier.

The ring and pinion are Corvette only , nothing crosses over and no one repro's them .You must use Corvette 53 to 55 , that's why the 56 up Corvette assy is used in it place if the unit goes ..

The pinion can be hardened after machining. Check your phone directory. You will need to give them information so they can match what it was before.

You can test any Chevrolet pinion to get that information so find a junk pinion to test.

I intend to machine the pass pinion gear shaft to corvette specs just to see what it takes to accomplish the task. Once that's done, case hardening would be next, as you suggest. Not sure of the effects of case hardening "again". I have a friend who works for Pratt & Witney in the aircraft industry who can do the machining properly. I was hoping to find a ring and pinion set, if possible.

Once everything is done, I'll post or write an article for the Restorer or something.

They seem to have everything I've ever needed and they are reliable and honest. What they don't have they usually can fabricate.

Randy's, and no one else, so far, can do the job. I'm going to have the machining done and submit an article if it all works out well.
