Where is the best place to buy a new 08??

I wanted to get some input on who to buy a new 08 coupe from.I cannot find one like I want so it is going to have to be ordered. I have found 2 forum dealers that are a lot cheaper than any dealer here in Florida. I am comparing apples to apples, the same exact car and we are talking 4-5K differance in price.Just looking for some advice and opinions !! Tom

      Message sent to Tom.

Be sure to get Museum Delivery (R8C), and do the NCM Buyer's Tour. You will be hard pressed to have more fun than watching your Corvette being built from the first panel glued on (door surround), to starting the engine for the second time (you might be luckier than I was and get the first start), and maybe you will get to ride through the dynamic test -- I wish I could shift like that woman did -- she had it up to 80 in no time flat. What a thrill.

I'm sure the museum delivery will be almost as much fun. I almost can't wait.

        Tom,

I would suggest calling Murphy Motors in Williston, North Dakota. This dealership has full GM line minus GMC truck. I live in Northern California and ordered my '02 model over the phone. Price was over $10,000 less than any dealer in my state and it is drop shipped to your nearest dealer at no extra charge.

Hey, Terry! Yours is built!!?? Cool...Email me the date and time (AM/PM) of your delivery, and I'll try to get some webcam shots of your new car indoctrination and drive-out for you. It's always fun watching these new owners very carefully negotiating that left turn out of display row; you'd think they were driving an EGG.

I don't think anyone gets to start their car the FIRST time; at least I haven't heard of anyone doing the test start. I'm thinking, if there is a screwup with the engine, they want their guy on the start/stop button so they can shorten the reaction time and minimize the damage.

Since the 2005s came out, there have been a lot of owner complaints about bad front end alignments...if the woman doing your dynamic test was a stocky little brunette with short hair, you won't have to worry about your alignment (next step after dynamic test)...she dialed mine in GUD!

Yes mine was off the line 7:45AM 10-11-07. The wheel alignment is just before the dynamic test, and folks in a pit do the alignment. No one is in the car when it is set up, and as far as I could tell those driving the car have nothing to do with the alignment other than parking the car in the right spot.

I was told the woman who did the dynamic test is a Corvette owner who drives her car to work nearly every day. I don't recall her hair style, but was told she is a very religious person. I was careful about my expressions of joy and how I phrased my exuberance.

The first time the Z06s are run is a hot test after build. The first time for LS3 is on the line. I had the impression that the owner getting to start the engine for the first time depends on who is working at that station at the time one comes by. I did get a "birth certificate," and those used to be reserved for attractive women on the tours. Hmmm.

I take delivery October 24 at 7:45 AM. I know there is at least one other JSB car on for that time. Mine has silver painted wheels, his polished -- but I don't know how that will show on the net. I expect it will be hard to miss me. No one else looks quite like I do. My plans are to look over the car, then I think we go to tour the plant, then I come back and get the car. If I find out the schedule changes, I'll let you know.

I saw some cars being pulled out when I visited on the 10th. It is a tight turn. I don't suppose wiping out the NCRS or NCCC displays would go over well.

                alignment problems

unless you are doing track days or autocrossing your corvette have the camber set to "0" on the front to prevent the tires from wearing in the inside edges.i do this to all my C-5s and C-6s

Re: Where is the best place to buy a new 08??

My alignment was after the dynamic test...maybe the car ahead of me took a little longer on the alignment, and they sent mine directly to the dynamic test. I thought alignment was all automated today, and that she just loosened and tightened fasteners for a machine; but, then if that true, I guess there wouldn't be owner complaints.

As I remember, the alignment pit is hidden behind the final inspection station where the owners get to drive the car off the line. The dynamic test station is directly ahead of the end of the line. It seems like a contorted layout the way they have to move the cars between those two stations, but that lady wasn't messing around...she had no problem making those moves expediously.

I hadn't ever heard that part about the "attractive women" getting the certificates. I think those guys were pulling your leg, uh...you know, because of the beard. They have a good sense of humor there. I got the birth certificate for mine, and a short instruction on how to start and drive the car ("Just jab the green button, just once. Don't hold it down; just push and release.")

The start-up was the one of the main reasons I took the tour. I thought the drive-off was the first engine start, and I didn't want some farmer's wife pushing the green button and taking it to WOT on its first start. My wife thought she would be bored to death at the plant, but we both thoroughly enjoyed the tour. I highly recommend the experience to everyone.

                    Hi Warren,
How does the drop ship to your nearest dealer work ? Why would a dealer being undersold by $10k consider participating in another dealers delivery ?
                    thanks
