I have an oil leak on my T-10 I cant figure out. Ive rebuilt it, leak is at the front of the trans and leaks in the bell housing . the retainer is new and is sealed. Ive heard that some trans have an external vent.. can oil travel out the input shaft?, any ideas?

Re: 62 T-10 Oil leak
Sounds like one of two possible problems,#1 your front bearing is completely worn out or #2 you did not install the front bearing retainer correctly lining the oil return hole up with the boss in the retainer.......my guess is #2 is most likely.rj- Top

Re: 62 T-10 Oil leak
Hi,
I had a similar problem on my 1963 T10... Installed after a rebuild it would leak slightly down the bellhousing. The problem was the counter shaft which comes through the case along side of the bearing retainer.
I needed to drop the tranny and coat the end of the counter shaft with cold-weld to seal it. Let it harden, a slight sanding and a re-install. Good news is that the repair is not visible once re-assembled.
Some of the other guys on this board will probably have more detail, but from what I recall, that shaft is not sealed so oil leakage occurs once the case wears a bit.
Hope this helps,
