Looking for serial number on my 60 vette frame. There is some rust surface rust where I think it should be. left side on the top side of the frame, below drivers left leg/knee. Is it the complete serial number or just the last 5 digits? What size are the charactors, 1/4, 5/16. 3/8? Could I spray something on to bring out the charactors?

Re: 60 frame serial number location and size?
Bill, It's about at the front of the seat bottom, probably around the back of your knee towards the calf of your leg. It is the complete serial number, sometimes stamped twice. I found mine(on my 59) using sandpaper & scotch-brite and then carefully looking with a mirror long ago. I was due to check it again so see pics below. Nice flat mirror(stole my wife's compact), and double stick taped to the floor. Characters are about 3/8 inch high. The end of mine is right next to the plastic floor plug. Check around there. Overall length is about 3 1/2" long. Mine is pretty close to the edge of the frame top as you can see.

Re: 60 frame serial number location and size?
Hi Bill
I read here before that once you clean the rust away real good, use an air hose and blow the dust away carefully, then take a piece of white chalk and rub it over the whole number area. Wipe over that area so that the chalk is only in the numbers. Then it makes it easier to see with a mirror.
Good luck...John- Top

Re: 60 frame serial number location and size?
Bill...
If it will help, on the driver side main frame rail is a 1/2 inch dia. hole drilled on the vertical side and located 2 1/4 inches from the top of the rail, directly below the middle of the drivers side door. The serial number is normally stamped on top of the rail, directly above the 1/2 inch hole. The number is sometimes stamped twice and I have found them also under the ribbed rubber cushion cemented on top the rail. The numbers may be very faint, so the caulk method is a good one.- Top
