65 375 HP final assembly before dyno run.

PN 3719599 Plate SB 6440083 pump

This plate fits between the block and fuel pump to contain the fuel pump rod. I have seen the block being assembled and painted @ the flint plant. They were fired on propane when they were tested. The fuel pump was not attached to engine.
At what point was the Fuel pump installed and what color was the plate behind the pump. Was the plate orange, black, or bare.

What color was the clutch inspection plate? Since this was put on after engine test and paint I would assume that it was gloss black.

The fuel pump was installed at St. Louis as part of the final assy process. You'll see it called out in the AIM meaning it was NOT part of the engine sub-assy shipped from Flint/Tonawanda. As for color, the parts would have been as-supplied from their respective suppliers.

The clutch inspection plate WAS part of the engine assy during painting and should have varying coverage of Chevy orange (coverage depends on how aggressive the painter was; did he bend over far enough to hit the bottom of the oil pan + the inspection cover and lower bellhousing fully).

Since this is put on at ST. Lousi then I would assume that it is balck or bare metal and definately not orange.

This goes into my 65 coupe.
I will publish the engine HP, Torque, & Fuel/air ratio late January.
It will be interesting to see if it will make 375 HP.
The engine will be as install in car for judging - Air filter.

The dyno check will make sure every thing is OK before it goes onto frame and eventual body drop.

      Thanks

        Hi Larry,
I think the fuel pump plates are bare metal. All that I have removed show know evidence of paint on either side. Same for the two small bolts that hold the plate to the block.
Good luck on the start up
