    source for MC cap

I have a very early 62, 250hp, 3 speed. The car is equiped with a cast cap on the master cylinder. After flushing my system, I decided to replace the cap gasket only to discover that the majority of the venders carried a gasket that had an ID of 1 1/4 inches when I needed a gasket with an ID of 1 5/8. Does anyone know of another source or will this call for me to fabricate one? Thanks in advance! Jon

    Hi Jon

I too have an early 62 vette and my cap is plastic as I believe they are supposed to be according to what I read. That might be why your diameter of the gasket is different.

I am not sure how early is considered early, but I know #399 has a plastic cap.

My 62 is prior to #399. Check the JM and you 'll find that it was not uncommon to find the old cast on an early 62. My local corvette guru has a #349 with a cast iron cap. Mine is #108. It just makes me irritable to see venders list the cast iron gasket for the cast cap and not have it with the right ID. I just thought that maybe someone would know of another source before I carve one out. Regards Jon

              Thanks again Jim.....

the gasket fit like a glove! Please keep in touch with your progress on your 62 project. Naturally, since your car is so close to mine in production, I'm interested in comparing notes along the way. Please don't hesitate to contact me, should you need any help or photos. Regards, Jon
