    C1 Fake Whitewalls

This is a strange question but....Does anyone know if someone still makes the add-on whitewalls like they use to have in the 50's?. I haven't seen or heard about them in years. Maybe they won't even work with the "bulge" on the bottom of the "new-fangled" radial tires of today......Just curious!

    Brad,

Back in those days they were called Portawalls, and I think you can still buy them from Lucas.

                Re: C1 Fake Whitewalls

                Loren,
If you were asking me "why".....I'm planning to put some roadworthy tires on my C1 (as opposed to the bias ply, "show car" tires that's currently on the car). I like the wide whitewalls but I don't care for the tread pattern of the radials I've found (like Coker's) I've looked into most other 205x75x15 radial tires but none have wide whitewalls of course.....so, I was thinking about combining the "fake" whitewalls with the better quality modern radials.....that's why I asked the question. I want to DRIVE my car and I want it to LOOK good!

But Ray straightened me out by sharing that they will not work with radial ply tires. Thanks, Ray and everyone else that responded! I guess I'll stick with blackwalls!

I'm familiar with DiamondBack tires but I had no idea that they could put a wide whitewall on ANY tire! Thanks for opening my eyes, Rob! I will call them tomorrow....

                        Brad,

If you want to get creative with your existing blackwalls, a durable rubber whitewall paint is apparently available (check out the link below).

                            Louis,
I am SO impressed! Your answer is precisely why I enjoy this discussion board so much! Ask a silly question about WWW tires and you get a dissertation on something you had never even heard of.....painted-on whitewalls! What a concept! I am truly going to write and get some of this stuff....I'd bet that Roy Braatz has never heard about this!
                            Thanks,
