Was it possible to delete backup lights on 1966 model year?
I have a 66 I am taking off frame and it does not have the backup light switch on the trans or the wiring harness anywhere. The inboard red lights I thought were an ad on when I purchased it.
It has the original 4 speed trans, no hits, no mods, not tamperd with BB conv.
Back up lights were optional with RPO T86 in 1964. In 1965, backup lights were optional as part of the Z01 comfort and convenience group which also included the day/night mirror. Backup lights then became standard in 1966.

If Corvettes were like the full-size Chevys, and I have no reason to believe they weren't, backup lights didn't become standard equipment until January, 1966. This action was taken to comply with federal safety standards. Therefore...once backup lights became standard, you weren't going to be able to delete them because it would have been illegal.
On the other hand, if you have an early car built before January 1966, my opinion is that backup lights would have been, as in 65, an option. If they weren't ordered as an option on an early 66, you wouldn't have any evidence that they ever existed...JMHO. Please note that this poster knows jack about C2 Corvettes.
