    Re: 1966 Backup Lights-2

    Jerry,

The radio was an option (RPO U69) for 1966. So there would not have been a radio delete per se. A heater was standard, but the heater delete was an option (RPO C48) for a $97 credit. GM records indicate a production quantity of 54 with the heater delete option. I would assume if backup light delete was an option for 1966, it would have to be accounted for in the production records. Without any production records or documentation to the contrary, I would assume that all 1966 cars came with backup lights.

        Re: 1966 Backup Lights-Inquiring Minds

Jerry - Interesting discussion but even more interesting would be knowing how your 66 is set up as far as the rear electrical harness since to the best of my knowledge there is/was only one rear electrical harness for the 66 Corvette. Are the inboard rear lamps brake and tail lights? If so, are there indications of wires being spliced and/or are there wires that could be traced to the BU lamp circuit that are not being used or did someone replace the rear harness with the one from a 65 w/o BU lamps. Let us know, if you have any additional information on the system. Pete

            Pete,

I will soon be able to have good enough access to the tail light harness. I need to clean it up and see if it is spliced or of the wires are original. I am not to that point yet but I will post the results before too long. Thanks

I'm sure you'll find splices - many owners replaced the backup lights with red taillights; the complete lamp assembly had to be replaced, as the backup light housings had single-contact sockets.
