So now is a good time to review the origin of "stovebolt" six. IIRC it has something to do with the head bolts resembling an old "stove bolt", but I was brought up in a big city house with a modern electric stove, and can't recall ever seeing a "stove bolt".

Didn't know that a stovebolt looked like a red "x" in a box.

I believe the term "the mouse that roared" was never coined until no earlier than 1970 and referred specifically to the 1970 LT-1.

                    Alan,

"The Mouse That Roared" was the title of a movie from the late fifties, IIRC. It was applied to the SBC soon thereafter.

Hey, thanks for all the "rat" and "mouse" info. I appreciate it !

I can also put all those old bolts (I didn't know what they were for) to good use now, on our kitchen stove when I bolt it to the wall !

Joe, thanks for the info. I stand corrected. I remember a magazine article a while back titled "The Mouse That Roared", about the 1970 LT-1, I guess I just assumed that was a phrase coined only a few years ago about the LT-1. As I own one of these beasts, maybe I tended to romanticize that phrase as only applying to my car
