Re: Trivia
I like posting Articles I included in SACE mag. And some that I wrote about now and then and hope people here get something from them . Some things may change from the years ago when they were written .
I post many pic's here and keep them till I see no more hits because my web page would be filled , some like them some don't and it helps NCRS from storing them. If I have a pic. Of interest some one would like returned just ask.
If it's an accessory OK ha! Ha!

Re: Trivia C1 Carbs wrote many years ago
Roy,
Do you know about how much clearence there should be between top of air cleaner and underside of hood on "57 single carb". maybe thats why my paint is blistering after i istalled what i thought was correct carb, it is a wcfb and hood does close
thanks

Re: Trivia C1 Carbs "Paul"
I don't know exactly but it's close , even with the wrong higher Carb base I don't see why the hood would get hot. The hot intake by=pass will heat the Carb ///but that hot I don't think so.
The only thing I can think of is if the Carb base is wrong where it meet the intake it may be getting hot air from the intake exshaust cross-over that rises up and heats the hood. ( A small leak ) Check again to see if the Carb base covers the intake correct. Let me know , does the hood get hot? E-mail me!!- Top

Re: Trivia C1 Carbs "Paul"
roy,
i would check base but i would not know what to look for all i know, is i bought it from bob kunz in st. louis,mo. everyone agrees he does a great job but even thought i told him i had a 57 vette i don't know if there is a diff. between carbs. or "bases" its just for 30 yrs i had a wrong carb. i think a quada jet and nothing ever happen to outside of hood as to paint blistering
so by looking what would i look for
sorry for repeated responses

Re: Trivia C1 Carbs "Paul"
Paul,
Just as a FYI, I had a 57 WCFB with the thicker base on my 59 for 15 years and never had a problem like yours. It was actually the rear carb on my dual four setup, which tilted the air cleaner towards front of the car a bit. It just barely cleared the hood. I put the correct WCFB on many years ago, with the thinner base and air cleaner was then parallel with the engine and hood.
I think Roy has something there with the idea of the heat riser/crossover. Or maybe this......If the choke tube coming from the exhaust manifold isn't setup right. If hot exhaust is being piped right into the choke that may be your problem, heating up the top enough to burn paint. The tube is supposed to go through the manifold just to heat the air inside it. It's very common for the tube inside the manifold to rust out and let exhaust gases right into the choke. Check that out, never know.
