Early to late-60's SCCA Corvette national champ. Ran with the Yenko's and the other Pittsbugh pa Corvette legends. expired Sat. Bob resurrected his moptorsport passion 5 years ago when the Cumberland Cutocross series was began. he was a frequent cumberland competitor in his C-4 vette. as i recall, he won Daytona and sebring in his 66 BB coupe in the late 60's. quite a character along with the other Pittsburgers. mike

i talked to bob last year. we used to compete against each other in the local autocross and hill climbs back in the 60s.i remember he beat me by .3 of a second for FTD at the appolo hill climb, bob running his corvette and i was in my modified 68 Z-28. i also used to do some dirt bike riding with bob. great guy and lots of fun to be around. Did you happen to know a Bill Martin from your hillclimbing days? He owned '59 #9016 and there is a pic of him "in action" below.

Clem, I first met Bob McClure in 1965 when I got my first new Corvette. He flew to the Latrobe airport from Pittsburgh and wrote me up an insurance policy for it. It may have been Nationwide but I forget. Heard from him about 5 years ago or so. Bob wasn't that old? Wonder what he died from. Not as old as you anyhow. He always appeared to be in good health. I believe he was one of he original CCWP members and was really good at autocrossing as I recall. Somewhere I have some pics of him doing so from the old CCWP Flyin' Fiberglass.
