    Wayne-----

This plate is a GM #3734990. It is the same one used for all 348 and 409 waterpumps. It was discontinued without supercession in April, 1973. However, as a practical matter and as far as I know, the later plate can be used as a replacement.

Indeed it was! I'm ready for a "reunion" of this group at the Sardine Factory anytime anyone wants to do so. Of course, it's only about a 90 mile trip for me but I'd do it even if I had to travel 3,000 miles!

        Joe,

I think the San Jose National in 2009 presents a great opportunity for "Episode 2."

Maybe your car will even be done by then.

Yes, that's a great idea. We need to make arrangements with the folks attending ahead of time and, then, I can make arrangements for the same room we had the last time ahead of time (the last time we were lucky with "last minute" arrangements; we don't want to count on that this time). It would be nice to get as many of the same folks together as were there last time so it can be a true "reunion". Figuring that they'll probably be at least a few who can't make it, we can invite some "new blood". However, we are somewhat limited by the size of that room and we ABSOLUTELY HAVE TO HAVE IT IN THAT ROOM.

As far as my car, have no fear, it will be done any day, now.

First of all, it's going to have all 1969 emissions systems installed and fully operational. I wouldn't have it any other way.

Secondly, it will be an engine and transmission combination that was available in PRODUCTION for the 1969 model year. So, it's "emissions legal" from the get-go. "Clones" are permisable under law. The internal differences won't affect emissions in a negative way (they'll probably have a positive effect) and they'll be externally indistinguishable, anyway.

Third, my car, due to its age, is exempt from emissions control inspections, anyway, and all I have to do to take it out of non-op status is provide evidence of liability insurance and pay the registration fee. That will make it fully licensed for operation.

Actually, even though it doesn't have to undergo emissions inspections, I plan to have it emissions-tested on a voluntary basis. I just want to see what it can do emissions-wise. So, I can just have an emissions shop do what they call here a "pre-test". Or, I might find someone with an older BAR-90 emissions tester that's still operational (but no longer usable for regulatory inspections) and have them test it.

that is interesting as i was under the impression that you could not even use gasoline powered lawnmowers in calif.

Sometimes the later plates might end up hitting the timing gear cover. On my 63 with the 609 water pump I believe we experimented and put a later style ribbed plate on it and wouldn't you know the plate was hitting the timing cover. So then back to the original non-reinforced plate. I had two 609 pumps. One had the slotted screws and the other hand the hex bolts. I used the hex bolts. Forgot the logo though. John D.
