    63 swc window

I am installing the glass on my doors frame. The mat I received from Paragon is different from the stuff that was used by the factory.
What came off the old glass, was a rubber material, same as on the vent window.
(The mat I used on the vent window was the rubber type, also from Paragon)
But the material for the door glass looks like a gray/black material, with has what looks like a linnen type layer on one side.
Is this correct ? If yes, does the linnen lined side go toward the glass or toward the channel ?
It is actually easy to install the glass on the channel, as opposed to the vent window. Had to use heat and lubricant on the vent, the door glass pushes easyly into the channel...Just curiuos about the material...

The original material was black without the linen backing for both the door and vent.rj

      Rainer -

I'd be more concerned with the correct thickness of the material (and resulting retention of the glass in the channel) than what it looks like. The material is "glass setting tape", and is available in several thicknesses from auto glass shops. The last thing you want is for the glass to separate from the sash channel after you get the door fully assembled and trimmed.

        Thanks, Bob and John.
I agree, the material is not visible when the glass is installed.
I called Paragon, and they told me to install the tape with the "linnen" side toward the glass.
I installed the glass today that way, using a small amount of lubricant on the channel side (dish water liquid mixed with water-works great).
The tape is a bit thicker than the rubber kind, aprox 1 MM (.040" thick) and holds the glass tight. I think the glass is there to stay...

Ranier, I have been watching your posts seeing you suffer with setting the vent window glass and now the door glass.
In my area we have numerous shops that specialize in replacing windshield and I live in a rather small town. Your Detroit area must be loaded with these businesses.
I remember when it came time to installing the new LOF glass in my 63 we took the door glass and vent windows to the glass shop and the job was done correctly in short order at little expense.
Then the same shop came to my house and installed the windshield in less time than it has taken me to write this note.
I leave the speciality jobs to the specialists who do it everyday. But on the other hand I can appreciate you wanting to do most everything your self. That's very commendable. Good luck, JD

            John,

If I could have forseen the trouble I had with my vent window, I would have gone to a specialty shop and had them do it. To install the door glass, after I found out which way the tape went, was no trouble at all.
The biggest set-back I had was with my windshield glass, because the glass was just too big. I ended up having that installed professionally, and still had trouble due to the interference with the clips. You would not believe, how many "Specialty Glass Shops" I had to contact, before I found one that would do it at my house. Even in a big area as Detroit...
In retrospect, after I went thru the exersise, I would do all the glass work again myself, except for the windshield..
Yes,I want to do most of the work myself, that's what restoring is all about. Did the seats myself, they came out beautiful.
But there are many things, I didn't even try to do myself and went straight to the experts (Paint, instruments, horns, alternater, starter, rear axle, F.I. unit, engine, trans, and a few more.
But I am almost done with my car.
My next project will be done somewhat different...
