    you do not have to drill just tap with a 7/16"-14 tap. if the hole is blind use a small amount of red loc tite. if the hole is in to the water jacket use some permatex non hardening sealer. there is a non threaded area that will limit how far down the stud will screw and it should screw in with out any force but you may have to double nut it to make sure it is tight. if it is a blind hole you will need to use bottom tap after the starting tap to get the threads all the way down. the holes into the water jacket do not need the bottom tap. dont worry about the chips going into the water jacket just use some grease on the tap to hold the chips and the blind hole you can use a shop vac to get the chips out of the hole

        Clem, I am curious about the "special" tap you said you had made. What is special about it?

          i had a .375 diameter pilot ground on the end so it would start straight. this was done before all the special jigs and fixtures were available to align the tap. the new fixtures allow you to use standard taps and they are easier to use.
