    '71 alternator 1100950

    Guys

Any suggestions on where I can find my alternator (1100950)?

my car was built in June 1971.

Any recommended vendors, or is Carlisle my only option?

    Thanks

Have you checked with John Pirkle? That's the first place I'd try.

However, as far as I know, the GM #1100950 alternator was a Corvette-only piece. So, that makes the original supply of them quite limited and makes for a huge problem in finding one.

From a FUNCTIONAL perspective, it's easy to duplicate one. However, if what you're after is one with correct "numbers", I think you're in for a lengthy and expensive sort of thing.

It's hard to find any 950's any more so if you find one with a date for a 73-75 you should pick it up and still hunt for a 71 950. Thease alternators were batch made so only a few dates will be on originals.

        Thanks for the lead.
I called John Pirkle, he had one dated for an early '72.
He told me to try Chicago, I called, non in stock, told me to try in a few months.

I'm also calling local alternator shops in my area...some have no clue, others are understanding and have checked their inventory for me.

        I'll keep hunting.

I agree with Joe on it being expensive. A 71 dated 950 would go for $750.-$1000. if you find one and the person knows what he has. Pirkle has had very few 950's in the last few years as I ask at Carlisle every year.

Ok, I found my alternator, it's dated April '71, two months before my June build date.
The guy wants $500 for it, show quality yada yada yada guaranteed for life etc.

Incorrect alternator looses 24pts, isn't it wise to spend the $500 on something else that looses more points, like correct tires?

            Opinions needed, Thanks.

$500 sounds like a very reasonable price, but...beware that there are some restamps that are very detectable to the experienced judges. Periodically you will find these questionable alternators on ebabes for less than the going market. Caveat Emptor
