Hi guys, I am new to the NCRS forum and have a question regarding the original style oil filter cansiter for my 1964. I am getting my car ready for flight judging next spring and currently have an original style canister, but the AC info is a sticker and I understand that the silk screen style is more correct. I happen to have a new (in the box) reproduction unit from LIC which is silk screened, but the bolt is a natural finish with an "M" headmark. The canister that is on my car now has a black bolt head with an "AP" headmark. Which one is best to install on the car? Many thanks!

Re: 1964 Oil Canister
For a Mar64 car;
Bolt is natural without any marking. It appears to be a two part assembly, a shaft showing a small indent in the center (from lath)with the nut pressed onto the shaft. Nut is 3/4 and 3/8 long. Shaft is same size as rest of bolt. It looks like GM used the same method on the nut for the jack, however no pin in oil filter case.
The washer, copper, should not be painted. Again this on my car and is original, but other minor designs may be found if GM used multi sources - do not know- Top

Re: 1964 Oil Canister
Chuck, Long bolt on the 63 and 64 oil cannister is "AP". They were a big supplier of engine "accessory" bolts in that era. 57 to 64 used a lot of AP base plate or intake bolts from AP. But they also used about 3 other companies.
If you look in the Fastener Manufacturers ID Symbol book though it's hard to see who the AP company actually was. (I tried years ago to contact these companies in hope of buying intake bolts from them but didn't get anywhere.) I think it was either APCOA Fasteners or All Power MFG. Course that is useless trivia today. Don't count out the "M" though as being incorrect. Reason I say that is as far as intake bolts go for your car. Here is the list of logos. UR,TR,M, or AP. But I don't know if they all carried over to the oil cannister. I doubt you would get a ding with the M bolt. But to be safe use the original AP. You already have the correct bolt so use it. Repro bolts are OK but not the real deal. JD- Top
