    60 underhood detail questions

    1. Does the 270 horse engine have a valve cover sticker? My assembly manual shows it, but I always thought NOT.

    2. Horn relay cover........... silver cad or gloss black?

    3. Can't figure out where/how fan shroud or radiator seals go. Assy. manual doesn't seem to show unless I missed in multiple flips all the way through. No signs of staples in shroud as in my mid year stuff.

    4. Bought repop front bumperette/tag bracket......... supposedly correct for '60. All three of my straight axles were missing it when I got them, so nothing to compare to. Center plate seems like very poor fit with only top and bottom corners touching leaving gap of about 1/4" on both sides in middle, and tabs lack about 1/4 to 3/8" from touching bumpers on each side. Center plate wrong, poor quality, or am I just missing something? Assy manual not helping here either.

    5. Spacer type bolt for generator support arm in top right hole of waterpump. Already installed in engine when it was painted?????

    Re: 60 underhood detail questions

    1. Yes....passenger side valve cover only
    2. Gloss black
    3. Three rubber seals on front side of radiator. Objective is to force air through the fins instead of around radiator. The two semi-circular ones are glued with gorilla snot in the lower corners of the radiator frame. The long narrow one is glued against the lower part of radiator frame and the lays next to the 1/4-20 screws that hold the lower radiator mount on (metal)
    4. Sounds like yours fits exactly like mine.....
    5. Installed mine after engine paint (black) Never lost any points

    Hope this helps....

      Re: 60 underhood detail questions

      Thank you.

Tonight I was comparing the repopped front bumperettes/tag bracket to the original from my '59. (which I didn't realize I even still had when I made the original post yesterday) The uprights are mounted about an inch lower on the welded chrome bracket that bolts to the black frame brackets, which of course makes the assembly lower in relation to the grille. This particular assembly is being sold as "correct" for 58-60 by the vendor I use most, at a higher price than another one they have listed.

Just wondering if anybody else has seen the difference???

The only thing I know for sure about the front bumperettes that the judges look for is.....on the inside, where the vertical piece is connected to the horizontal piece.....there should be evidence of 3 spot welds on each side (12 spot welds total) indicating originality
