    C1 Upper Windshield Moulding

I removed the windshield from my 1959 Corvette today. I removed the chrome post so I can have them re-chromed. My question is, is there and way to remove the steel upper glass frame that is in the upper stainless steel piece? I want to remove a few of the small dings and repair the sunvisor holes along with having the stainless polished. Is there a trick on remove the upper inner metal frame?
    Thanks Ken

Use several kitchen knives or putty knives to work it apart. Pay attention to how it is assembled before you remove it. Most people assume it goes together with the inner channel completly inside the stainless. One side is inside and the other isn't. (don't remember if front or back) tell us if you find out.

        Hi Ken,

I have a '59 also and did what you are doing about 20 years ago. Yes pry it off carefully as suggested.

One other thing. IMO, you may want to consider before chroming the posts, to have the lower tabs replaced. After posts are installed there is no indication of the modification as well as being a stronger mount point. When I did mine back then, a tab on one post was broken. The repair shop(Ron's Auto Restoration in MA) replaced the tab by milling the bottom of the post to accomodate a new steel tab screwed into new threaded holes in the bottom of the post. At that time this was a new process by them. Ron told me it was one of the first ones they did, and it has been fine ever since. I opted not to have them break off the other one that was ok and replace that tab. In hindsight I wish I did as I now fear for it every time I latch the soft top!

p.s. I'm now restoring a '62 and will break the tabs(if not already broken) and have them replaced on this set.

i think most broken tabs aren't the result of latching the hard or soft tops but rather some Bubba at the windshield replacemnt shop discovered it was quicker to break the tabs when installing a new windshield(that way they didn't have to unbolt the lowerportion of the windshield frame from the body). mike
