1962 window adjustment screw hole in door

The hole in the top of the door for the window adjustment screw is to be filled with #3711175 cement after installing the screw. What would be a currently available equivalent of this cement ?

Second question. Was this filling then painted ?

    Thanks

    John

If I understand correctly it was filled with cement, then covered with bondo and then spot painted. 3M has a gray filling cement similar of what was used in the oldies...

      John,

The cavity around the screw was filled with a non-hardening putty(dum-dum), to a level about 1/4" below level with the top of the door, and was then filled with the same bonding adhesive that was used on the rest of the body. Vette-bond or any similar bonding adhesive will work fine. Yes, the plug was smoothed a little and then touch-up painted after final assembly. If you fill the entire cavity with bonding adhesive, you will never be able to get the screw out again. The thin layer over dum-dum allows you to simply take a hammer and screwdriver and punch the plug out. This was the way tthat the General did it and it makes a lot of sense. Don't sand the plug too smooth, as judges like to see the plug when judging a car.
