door window regulator

I am rebuilding my 1962 side door window regulators. For each a circular spring puts tension on the regulator. When I took the spring I forgot to note in what direction the tension is. Does the spring help to raise the window or to lower it?

The spring helps raise the window. It overcomes the weight of the window glass.
