Anyone know of a source for a 7 blade fan for my '64 with a/c? Thanks

The 7 blade 1964 with C-60 fan blade assembly, GM #3853943, was discontinued in August, 1977. At that time, it was replaced by GM #3931002. The latter was discontinued in October, 1986. I doubt that you'll find an NOS GM #3853943. However, the 3931002 show up on eBay from time-to-time. It's discernably different, though.

I believe the 3853943 is reproduced. I think that would be your best bet.

Joe, Trouble with a 7 blade fan is the car sounds like a bus. Back in 65 I had an AC car and couldn't believe the noise the fan made. It was embarrassing. John

I have a 7-blade fan, but is one of the 3931002 replacement fans. It's 7-blades but has than number stamped on each blade so it wouldn't be NCRS correct. However, it is a seven blade fan. I recently took it off my 67 327/300hp vert with AC and replaced with correct 5-blade fan. Let me know if you might still want it.

Hmmm... Sounds like the thermal clutch was stuck in the "on" position. I have an almost identical 7-blade on a non-GM 66 car, and it does "whoosh" on and off if I leave the car idling on a hot day with the AC on, but no such problems on the road.

Dave, The car was brand new. I complained to the dealer and the boss's son had me test drive another new 65 AC car and it was the same deal. Who knows. It was a long time ago but I always remember the noisy engine. Also the car was a dead horse. Base engine with a high ratio rear end. But it sure had a nice factory paint job. I first had a glen green 65 with the world's worst body and paint. A real POC. But the 2nd 65 was so pretty. That and the AC was basicaly why I traded 65 for 65. Story for you all. When I asked Sam Jr of Grabiak Chev. how much would it cost to trade my green 65 for the pretty burgundy one with AC he said to me, "John you can't do that. It's just not cost effective. It will cost you a fortune." So I looked back at him and I said well I am asking. About twenty minutes later Jr came back and said here is the best I can do. $500.00. Well that was a lot of money back then. Today that would be at least 5 or 6 grand. I figure I got whizzed but took it anyhow. When I got home my Dad was not too happy at all with me. John

When I was in the Navy, I kept giving guys rides in my 'Vette, then they would go out and buy one. One guy bought a one-owner 65 burgundy roadster with the upgrade engine, two tops, knock offs, and side pipes. People thought he was nutz to pay $11k for that in '86, but except for bad paint it was perfect. He got a good paint shop to do it up, and it looked great, even the old chrome looked great next to the new paint. The burgundy with the wheels, whitewalls, and exhaust looked really sharp.
