C1 idle characteristics?

I'm gonna show my lack of experience here, but I need to differentiate between "normal for that era" and "I have a problem I need to deal with."

Is there any way to describe what constitutes a rough idle? My car doesn't idle like my 2003 pickup, but I don't really think I should expect it to. It's not like some cars I've seen with hi-perf cams, where the motor mounts are put to the test at idle, either. What's normal? A little bit of body shake at idle? A lot?

What year and engine option? Is the engine "stock" or modified?

Well, I have

a '55 with the 265 V8 and Duntov solid cam, and the idle is smooth and quiet. Depends a lot on what model, but even a late-50's fuelie with solid cam should be fairly smooth.
