      Re: anyone know why repros not correct ?

      Hello;
      It seems most,if not all, repro parts have something wrong.

      1.Kick panels use wrong size windlace rubber cord.
      2.Convertible top front windlace is incorrect and rear seam is to short.
      3.Splash pan retaining bolts are correct, but integral washers are the wrong size.

      To name just a few.

      Thanks in advance for your help.
      Ray

        A personal opinion.... They just don't go to the trouble to make the details correct, probably because it will cost more.

          Ray-----

          That's the whole problem with the program. As far as I can tell, neither GM nor EMI exercise any oversight, whatsoever, over the licensee with respect to how the parts are produced or how close they are to original GM specification. I'm not talking about minor "nuances", either. Depending upon the licensee for a particular part, the part may be nothing more than a AFTERMARKET REPLACEMENT part.

          In exchange for payment of royalties, the licensee is provided with the original specifications, the original tooling if it's still around, and the right to use the "GM" trademarks, including the original GM part number (which is considered a trademark). That's it. Whether or not it's a requirement of the licensing agreement, as far as I can tell, no one makes sure that the parts are produced off of original tooling and no one makes any effort to ensure that parts are even made to original specifications. If they do make any such efforts, their efforts are largely unsuccessful.

            Re: anyone know why repros not correct ?

            Some of the repro items are parts that are being made today for another application, F**d maybe, and just adapted for Corvette use. Material used originally for some parts is not available today and the limited quantity that would sold does not justify having it reproduced, some of the problems deal with vendors that are/were in it for the quick buck, make one run of an item and get out. We badmouth offshore reproductions but I can tell you that there are some reproductions being made today that are equal, if not better, quality than the originals. It is up to the jobber to determine if he wants to make a 100% repro part, not the overseas manufacturers. It is a shame, but a fact of life, that they can and will do work better than we are willing to do in this country

              Yeah it is amazing what kind of production you can get out of a worker when He/She is chained to the work station.

                  Not necessarily true

                  I went for a tour of the Corvette assembly plant in the mid 1980's - I asked the tour guide "why are there a bunch of guys sitting around reading the paper?" Apparently at that time, the union specified how many extra workers had to be available in case the people on the line had to pee or something.

                  I'm sure that federal and state taxes don't help either - in Florida, I pay about 1.5% tax per year on all the assets owned by my company - file cabinets, chairs, tables, etc. Imagine if you had to pay tax on an assembly line full of super expensive equipment! How about government regulations? Unemployment taxes? (I've fired workers for just plain not showing up for a week only to have them later try to hit me for unemployment. It costs to have to appeal and fight those situations.) Lawsuits? (Imagine the gun manufacturers being held liable for the use of the guns, is it unreasonable that som a$$h*&e lawyer may try the same for auto manufacturers? The local fire inspector even wrote me up because we had a glade plug in air freshener that was out of scented oil!

                  If I could, I would take my manufacturing work overseas too!
