am currently restoring the front suspension of 57 1093. over the years, have saved all old front susp pieces off of a half doz c-1's i've restored.also have a doz or so 49-54 chevy pass car front suspensions. am interested in hearing from c-1 owners whose front suspensions are totally original, specifically the markings on the a-arm shaft bushings and the a-arm pivot's bushings. also would like mfg logo's on suspension component fastners. thanks, mike

Re: 56-57 judging manual update
Mike,
I am in Hagerstown and just performed the chassis overhaul on my late production '57 this summer. I have some very good spindle pictures and also retained all of the old parts off of the front end on my car. The paint marks on the tie rod ends are still visible. I will paw through the greasy pile for you this weekend.

Re: 56-57 judging manual update
Mike,
I was looking at the originals on my early 58' Big Brake car #1327 and the upper and lower bushings on the wide, inside end of the "A" arm were as follows: The 4 (2 left and 2 right)upper bushings had the letter "S" in a "box" style letter which is the exact same pattern as the "S" on the steering box. The lower 4 had "GM". I didn't notice any markings on the outers.
Question for you: I don't know about the 57's but on the lower fan shroud of my 58' there were two bolts that secured the lower fan shroud to the center of the crossmember. Do you know what bolts they were and where I could find some? I hope this isn't an illegal question.- Top

Re: 56-57 judging manual update
justin: sounds like you have opriginal style bushings but closer observation(once they are off and glass-beaded, i believe you will find more stamping date on ytour bushings than what you have posted herein. let us know once ya glas-bead them. can't help ya on the 58 fan shroud question. thanks, mike- Top

Re: 56-57 judging manual update
Mike,
I checked on the outers this time and here's what I got: the lower long threaded shafts with a grease fitting on its head and a large nut on its opposite end had black phospate finish and had a slash mark (-)under the grease fitting and the upper caps had the following numbers stamped in them...one had a "61" and the other had "621". Any other marks I should look for? Justin- Top

Re: 56-57 judging manual update
original lower outer pin with a nut on its end : pin has GM embossed, not stamped, on its head.also present of the piun's head is a mfgr logo that resembles a rectangle drawn by a first grader or a sloppy physcian. the correct nut will require a 1 1/16 socket whereas the repo nuts will take a 1" socket. such are the original lower outer pins on our 49, 50 and 51 chevy pass cars as well as our 54, 56, 57 and two 61 vettes. the embossed GM is real easy to visualize. mike- Top
