Great site. Ican take my pass. side wiper blade and shaft out of the transmission with no spring collar or bearing attached. what is it that holds the end of the shaft to the pulley? Do I have to take it apart to get it to hold some how or can you secure the shaft without dismantling? Brad

Brad, the shaft is a press fit into the end pulley. As it says on the web site
some shafts are peened over on both ends and some only on the wiper blade end.
Is the shaft just loose in the pulley or is it stripped allowing you to turn ( rotate ) the pulley while holding the shaft. If it is just loose you could try using some "green" loctite ( sleeve retainer ) or epoxy. Use a toothpick or something similar and put a thin coating in the hole in the area of the splines only. But before you do that make sure the two pulleys are not stuck together or you will have another problem. If it is stripped the only thing I can think of would be to pin the pulley to the shaft. I would let a machine shop do that if necessary. If it were me I would dissassemble it, clean everything and lubricate it before doing anything else after all it's been together for 50 years.
P.S be gentle and have patience when working with the pulleys. They don't take kindly to any kind of prying. good luck.

erich, the shaft does turn once you push it into the pulleys but would work its way out with wipers operating. Will get helper to watch pulley action when I push down on wiper unit. Does this change anything again thank you Brad?
